The cooling rates of high-velocity H I clouds are examined under the hypothesis that such clouds are at distances on the order of a megaparsec. It is found that many of these clouds require support mechanisms other than stock thermal energy to sustain them at their present parameters. Support mechanisms, their plausibility, and their possible observational consequences are discussed.
