The influence of internal structure (i.e., the isophote flattening profiles and the density distribution) in elliptical galaxies on the anisotropy of the velocity dispersion is analyzed. Because of the galaxy's orientation relative to the observer, the value obtained for the anisotropy is only a lower limit to the true value. On the average the anisotropy is found to be substantial, which supports the hypothesis that rotation plays a comparatively small role in the dynamics of elliptical galaxies.
