It is shown that the damping of magnetoacoustic waves by cosmic-ray diffusion will predominate in the interstellar medium for wavelengths not less than 1 pc or (for hot material with a temperature of 1,000,000 K and a density of 0.003 per cu cm) not less than 100 pc. It is also found that the dissipated wave energy will contribute to the acceleration of the cosmic rays.
