The appearance of Jeans instability in a multicomponent disk of stars and gas whose low-mass components (the gas and young stars) have a small velocity dispersion is considered. It is shown that under such conditions the Jeans instability can set in at wavelengths comparable with or even shorter than the wavelength of the spiral pattern. This instability could be excited by the star formation process.
