The dynamic and kinetic aspects of terrestrial astronomy are reviewed. Methods of observing the earth's rotation are discussed with attention given the photographic zenith tube, the Danjon astrolabe, and satellite radio observations. Interferometry is potentially the most precise observational technique, but the cost is prohibitive. The laser satellite is an excellent method of interpolation, but satellite orbital drift may introduce systematic errors into observations. While the moon laser is not subject to satellite instability, observations must be interrupted for a week around the new moon. The terrestrial-lunar system as well as terrestrial deformations are considered.
