The variation of the brightness of the Red Spot at 6600 and 9870 A relative to the South Tropical Zone in the transition from the central meridian to the limb is investigated on the basis of a series of spectrograms obtained with an infrared image tube and 400 photoelectric profiles of the STrZ at the time of visibility of the Spot. The main parameters of the atmosphere of the Red Spot and the surrounding cloud layer in the longitude range from 330 to 150 deg are determined within the framework of a two-layer model of the atmosphere (a semiinfinite homogeneous cloud layer and a purely gaseous atmosphere located above it). The main peculiarity of the optical properties of the atmosphere in the region of the Red Spot is the increased, by about 2-2.5 times, value of the scattering coefficient. The effective upper boundary of aerosol in the Red Spot is about 4-5 km lower than that of the medium surrounding it.
