HD 9974 has previously been called a binary because of the presence of absorption lines in its spectrum; however, our radial velocity study gives no evidence of duplicity. The presence of hydrogen in the emission-line spectrum and the ˜100 km s-1 blueshift of the absorption lines argue that the absorption spectrum is intrinsic to the W-R star itself. A comparison is made between HD 9974 and the other two known galactic WN3 stars, HD 104994 and HD 211564. HD 9974 has the weakest emission-line spectrum but also contains the most hydrogen.
