The 4C survey of radio sources between declination 20° and 40° (Pilkington and Scott, 1965) with galactic latitude |b| > 20° and with 178 MHz flux density S (178) ≥ 2.5 Jy has been corrected as well as possible for resolution and confusion effects (Véron and Véron, 1980). The flux densities at 2.7 GHz (11 cm) and 5 GHz (6 cm) of most of the sources in this sample for which no such flux densities were available have been measured with the Effelsberg 100 m telescope of the Max-Planck Institute for Radioastronomy in Bonn. These observations also provide radio positions with an accuracy of the order of 5 to 10 arcsec., which, in many cases, are the best available and will be used for the optical identification of these sources (paper IV in preparation). These measurements are reported in the present paper.
