Solar Active Regions: Morphology

Scientific paper

The cases of the active region 5395 from Mar 6 to Mar 9, 1989 were described. Using optical observation data obtained at Purple Mountain Observatory, the authors mainly analysed its morphological characteristics: (1) The new umbral spots were growing and splitting of the umbral spots occurred in the sunspot group 5395. (2) Individual umbral spots had drift in heliographic latitude and longitude. (3) The umbral spots and the sunspot group had evident rotation in the counterclockwise direction. (4) As a result of newly emerging magnetic flux in the sunspot penumbral, Hα flares will be produced.
