High-resolution spectra of 20 stars belonging to the clusters NGC 6611, NGC 6231, h + Chi Persei, and the loose association Cepheus OBIII are obtained in order to investigate the chemical composition of the interstellar medium and relative abundance estimates. Abundances are derived by equating the observed line strength to those predicted by model atmospheres. The observed oxygen abundances are inspected in order to reduce possible systematic errors, and the same procedure is applied to the data sets for nitrogen, silicon, magnesium, and aluminum. It is concluded that evidence of a locally flat abundance gradient can be derived from the chemical compositions of four nearby young star clusters.
