A brief summary is given of the basic plan and aims of the Edinburgh-Cape Blue Object Survey. We relate some of the difficulties encountered and progress made during the last few years, including the publication of Zone 1 and the discovery of a new class of variable star—the sdB rapid pulsators. The current status of the survey is described.
