The effect of a variable magnetic field on the thermal-convective instability in a stellar atmosphere in the presence of a stable solute gradient is considered. A dispersion relation is obtained which shows that criteria for monotonic instability hold good in the presence of the abovenamed conditions. Related findings in other papers are also reviewed.
