The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) will be a large-area, wide-field ground-based telescope designed to survey half the visible sky in 6 color bands every few nights. As such, it will enable a diverse array of scientific investigations all utilizing a single common database. I will present the main features of the design of the observatory and review the capabilities that LSST offers for constraining the nature of dark energy.
