The Virtual Solar Observatory (VSO) mission is to provide the scientific community with a single interface to the large and diverse solar data. The VSO has now moved forward to a newer and more flexible way for dealing with distributed solar catalogs. The new design addresses multiple field correlations, searches on key indexes, effortless addition of new catalogs and a new generic API. The development has extended the VSO concept of dataprovider to include not only existing solar catalogs, such as NOAA Active Regions, CME's, flares, X-Rays, etc but also any future ones. We discuss here the design and implementation of the VSO catalog.
