Current astronomical surveys have yielded hundreds of terabytes of images and catalogs spanning many decades of the electromagnetic spectrum. Providing access to these data sets will facilitate a broad range of multi-wavelength science programs. Even when observatories provide user-friendly web interfaces, exploring these data resources remains a complex and daunting task. How can we make the interaction with this data simple, intuitive and customizable. Here we present a new approach to data interaction that builds on emerging social networking technologies used in web-based tools (i.e. widgets or gadgets). We demonstrate how the gadgets we developed can communicate and share information, enabling users to visualize and interact with data through multiple, simultaneous views. We also show how new web-based applications for accessing and visualizing data can be easily generated, and how, by linking these tools together, we can build integrated and powerful data analysis frameworks.
