Compact radio sources, Gigahertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) and Compact Steep Spectrum (CSS) sources, are believed to be young and evolve into large radio objects. We now dispose of samples of X-ray observed GPS and CSS sources, however limits on the angular resolution of the X-ray observatories and statistics hamper the determination of the nature and origin of the emission. Understanding the processes responsible for the observed X-ray emission is of primary importance to study the radio source evolution and its interaction with the surrounding environment.
Here we present a study of the X-ray emission of a powerful and young quasar in a cluster environment. We constrain the contribution of the jet to the total high energy output of the quasar by modeling its broadband emission. We compare different radiative models, namely a single zone (synchrotron and inverse Compton) scenario to the case of a structured jet with two interactive emitting regions. We find that the relevance of the jet as an X-ray emitter is intimately related to the presence of a complex velocity structure. The implications of this model in terms of jet dynamics and interaction with the ambient are also discussed.
