This paper presents high spatial resolution near-IR J, H, and K images of the young outflow sources GSS 30, Serpens SVS2, Parsamyan 21, GL 2789, and NGC 7538 IRS9. The images have a pixel size of 0.142 arcsec and a field of view of about 9 x 9 arcsec. The data show that a wide variety of structures are seen in this sample of objects. A small shift of the flux peak in GSS 30 and NGC 7538 IRS9 is observed, which indicates that the IR radiation is likely to have a scattering origin and that the illuminating stars are not directly visible at these wavelengths. The position of the IR peaks remains constant at different wavelengths in the cases of Serpens SVS2 and Parsamyan 21; thus, the flux maxima can be identified with the location of the illuminating sources. Finally, although the position of the IR peaks in GL 2789 remains constant, this cannot be identified with the illuminating source, as shown previously by polarimetric observations.
