Observations of Jupiter and the Io torus were made using the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) satellite beginning in December and extending through July 1983. A long term stability is seen in the intensities of resonantly scattered solar Lyman alpha and auroral emissions from the planet and in the intensities of emissions from ionized sulphur in the torus. Short term factor of approximately 2 variations in the intensity of a given emission are not unusual, however. The temporal behavior of the emissions is consistent with suggested links between the Io torus, auroral activity, solar Lyman alpha output, and the H column abundance of the upper atmosphere. Spatial variations in the disk Lyman alpha and auroral emissions are also seen.
