The authors re-emphasize the importance of both spin-orbit interaction and configuration-mixing effects in the calculation of wavelengths and oscillator stengths for heavy-element moderately-ionized spectra; with particular reference to Fe X resonance lines. They correct several rather misleading statements in a recent paper by R. Glass on Fe X, and dispute the argument that three- and four-electron correlation effects are important. They discuss afresh the (well-established) method of allowing for weak correlations by the scaling of radial integrals, and consider its implications for oscillator stength calculations.
