Dust is nearly ubiquitous in the cosmos and plays important physical and
diagnostic roles in astronomy. I will discuss theoretical modeling of dust, including its optical and magnetic properties and its interactions with
gas and radiation. As a specific application that incorporates many aspects of dust modeling, I will discuss the alignment of grains with the interstellar magnetic field.
