Most of the 440 galaxies presently chosen for spectroscopic study on the basis of their compact or bright nucleus appearance show absorption line spectra, but 16 new narrow emission line galaxies and a Seyfert 2 galaxy are included. About a third of the redshifts available south of the -30 deg declination are contributed by the present survey, which thereby facilitates a preliminary investigation of the three-dimensional spatial distribution of galaxies.
