Scientific paper

Results of experimental and theoretical studies of Venus reported during the Fifteenth Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in Houston are briefly reviewed. Particular attention is given to the new high-resolution radar images of Venus obtained by the Arecibo Observatory and the Soviet Venera 15 and 16 spacecraft and results of image interpretation. Attention is also given to the need for morphological analysis of the landforms identified on Venus by both the earth-based and spaceborne radars; results of comparisons of gravity, topography, and isostasy; results of an analysis of the Pioneer Venus radar reflectivity and roughness measurements; and tectonism and the origin of features in the Ishtar Terra region.
