We observed Comet Holmes 17/P shortly after the announcement of its outburst on October 26th, 29th, 30th, and 31st and November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. We determined the angular size of the outer and inner coma from our images and used the small angle equation and its distance from Earth to determine the physical size of these components as a function of time. We were then able to calculate the initial expansion rate between 1.33 and 0.97 km/sec during this timeframe. We also measured the angular separation between the nucleus and new pseudo-nucleus and in a similar manner calculated the observed separation velocity to be between 100 and 190 meters/second.
