The trajectories of 37664 particles in a dawn-dusk electric field in the neutral sheet of the geomagnetotail are numerically calculated. All particles start from a plane near the neutral line with uniform spatial distribution and isotropical pitch angle distribution. After the particles move through the neutral region, they are accelerated and exhibit a spatial distribution with a dawn-dusk asymmetry. The degree of the asymmetry depends on the energy range of particles, and the direction of asymmetry depends on the sign of charge. This result explains qualitatively the data observed on the IMP 7 and 8 satellites.
