Selenium is an important element for understanding neutron capture nucleosynthesis for elements beyond the iron peak. Yet, spectral lines of selenium have only been detected in the ISM and for higher ionization stages in the spectra of planetary nebulae. Lines of Se I and Se II have not been identified and analyzed in the spectra of stellar photospheres, including for the Sun. In large part, the study of selenium has been hindered by the lack of atomic data, in particular oscillator strengths. We present new atomic data for Se I and Se II, obtained from laboratory measurements on data obtained with the 2-m Fourier transform spectrometer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. We discuss these new data in terms of determining accurate wavelengths and oscillator strengths. Also, we present the results of our search for Se I and Se II lines in the spectra of hot and cool stars.
