Data from observations of the emersion of Hyd -20 deg 51695 from occultation by Uranus on May 1, 1982, obtained with a thermoelectrically cooled photomultiplier with peak response at 750 nm on the 104-cm reflector at Uttar Pradesh State Observatory, are presented in graphs and tables and used to characterize the upper atmosphere of Uranus. An atmosphere of 90 number percent H2 and 10 percent He is assumed, and the inversion technique of French et al. (1978) is used to determine the temperature profile. Parameters calculated include mean scale height 48 + or - 7 km, isothermal temperature 105 + or - 16 K, and mean temperature from 100 km below the half-light level 20 km above it 100 + or - 25 K. Comparison with previous temperature estimates indicates an increase during 1977-1980 and a decrease during 1980-1982.
