The effect of resonance between stellar oscillations and the orbital motion on the standard calculation of the rate of advance of the line of apsides in an eccentric binary system is investigated. The results are applied to the X-ray binary system 4U0900-40 for which the pulsing X-ray star enables accurate measurement of orbital parameters. It is shown that the standard formula for apsidal advance can be significantly in error, even to the extent of predicting the wrong direction of the apsidal precession.
