A study of abundances of volatile materials in meteorites reveals a correlation between inert and chemically active components. It is suggested that the planets of the earth group were formed from matter that was close in content to that of ordinary chondrites; in addition, the composition of the protoplanetary nebula in the region and period of the grain formation of ordinary chondrites is significantly different from solar composition. This provides additional evidence in support of the accretion model of the origin of the planets of the earth group.
