A correlation between dynamical times and the difference between the magnitudes of the first and second brightest cluster members is expected if the luminosity of supergiant cD galaxies and the Bautz-Morgan sequence of galaxy types result from dynamical evolutionary processes. Data from 15 Abel clusters supports this theory; however, the result depends on an uncertain data base. A similar analysis of the Gott-Turner groups provides convincing correlations. It is concluded that the effect is due to some dynamical process which depends on the finite size of galaxies since correlations are very weak in analytically selected data of Aarseth-Bott-Turner N-body experiments.
