Thakur and Sapre (1979) suggested that a QSO consists of a bright central object embedded in an extended nebulosity. This paper presents independent evidence in favor of this hypothesis. Alpha(U-B) and alpha(B-V), the spectral indices in (U-B) and (B-V) colors, were plotted for a sample of 80 QSOs with a redshift of z not greater than 0.76. An empirical criterion for the detectability of nebulosities around QSOs is suggested.
