A method is proposed for determining the circular polarization of solar radio bursts recorded at low frequencies by means of a swept-frequency radio spectrograph aboard a spacecraft. The method is based on the analysis of changes in the dynamic spectra of observed bursts caused by the magnetoactive ionospheric plasma. First observations of circularly polarized type III bursts at frequencies between 2.3 and 4.9 MHz are reported. A lower limit of magnetic field strength of 0.0012 G was calculated for the burst generation region at the 4-MHz coronal level.
