Energy distributions from 3308 to 9390 A of two candidates for a solar spectral analog and of 14 other northern G-type dwarfs are compared to the solar energy distribution by using stellar spectrophotometric standards. The reliability of the stellar and solar flux calibrations is evaluated. Labs and Neckel's calibration is found to be the best match to the energy distributions from 4500 to 8390 A of those four stars that share the sun's UV line spectrum (16 Cyg B, G5 V, and the three Hyades stars VB 64, 106, and 142). Below 4500 A, discrepancies of up to 6% remain, which do not seem to be genuine sun-star differences.
