Hydromagnetic models, including Ershkovich's (1972) type-1 comet model, where the plasma cylinder separated from the solar field by a tangential discontinuity surface, are discussed. It is shown that the use of a magnetic field assumption in Mendis' (1978) model contradicts the equilibrium pressure balance across the comet's tail. Attention is given to an analysis of the MHD momentum equation and the derivation of an inequality in determining the pressure on the comet tail and on the solar wind.
