The present analysis deals with a centrally symmetric model of the earth's hydromagnetic dynamo. Using expansions in series of spherical vector functions, the equations of hydromagnetic dynamo are reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations that are amenable to simple qualitative analysis. The possibility of magnetic field generation in the case where the conductivity is a function of the radius is examined.
