The synchronization method of Haag (Roseau, 1966) is used to find periodic solutions of the first kind for the motion of a gravitating particle around an oblate spheroid. Conditions of periodicity are obtained for families of solutions to an automatic system of equations, and the calculation of periodic solutions is illustrated for systems with fixed and rotating coordinates in the general, equatorial, circular and circular equatorial cases. It is noted that certain of the solutions presented are consistent with solutions obtained by other authors using other means.
