The optical, spectroscopic observations of cD galaxies obtained from the ph160 Square Degree ROSAT Survey are used to measure the line equivalent widths of [OII]λ3727 and other nebular emission features. The survey serendipitously revealed galaxy clusters based on extended X-ray sources and used spectroscopic observations to determine redshifts. We are looking at the warm ionized gas ( ˜10^4 K) in the interstellar medium of giant cD galaxies, typically the brightest galaxy located in the central region of a galaxy cluster, over a range of redshifts and X-ray luminosities. The origin of the gas has been constrained to stars, cooling accretion, and/or tidal infall. Currently, this study includes an ensemble of 51 clusters with redshifts ranging from 0.06-0.59 and X-ray luminosities ranging from ˜10^422.57×10^44 erg s-1. The preliminary results of this study will be presented.
