Molecular hydrogen equilibrium densities and formation rates are calculated for conditions present in the nucleus of NGC 1068. Results are consistent with the observed mass of H2 reported by Thompson, Lebofsky, and Rieke (1978). If the illuminating radiation field is assumed to be truncated at the Lyman limit, molecular hydrogen is shielded from dissociation by carbon. The total mass of H2 predicted by the models is consistent with other investigations of this object. The possibility of collisional excitation of H2 is suggested.
