A continuous five day ASCA observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 3516 (Nandra et al., 1999) has shown that the iron K-line profile is variable. Nandra et al. fitted disk line models to the individual spectra and were not able to identify a single parameter which accounts for the changes in the profile. We show here that the variability can be interpreted in terms of a variable free-form fit to the radial emissivity profile of the accretion disk. .
