We present additional observations of the Fomalhaut debris disk from Spitzer, extending those previously published in the ApJ Supplement (v.154, p.458, 2004). Most notably, we have obtained a very high S/N image with the 70um array working in its high resolution mode, which has been deconvolved to reveal a tilted annular structure strikingly similar to that seen in the sub-mm at the CSO and, more recently, by Kalas et al using HST. Our results also verify the asymmetry of this annulus, previously reported by Spitzer, which may be due to an otherwise unseen planet just interior to the annulus. In addition, a recently obtained high-resolution spectrum shows that the excess extends shortward to 16um.
This work is based on observations made with the Spitzer Space Telescope, which is operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology under NASA contract 1407. Support for this work was provided by NASA through an award issued by JPL/Caltech.
