A numerical model has been used to obtain the 1612-MHz maser line expected from a spherically symmetric shell with small perturbations of density, expansion velocity, and pump rates. The relations between asymmetry of the maser profile and the perturbation parameters have been calculated. The front-back asymmetry of the maser line is affected mainly by fluctuations of the OH molecule density, and small velocity fluctuations. Comparison of the results with empirical data suggests that differences in the profile asymmetry among OH objects may reflect various stages of their evolution.
