Two unusual cases of a sudden increase in atmospheric pressure on the earth surface, occurring at the same time as sudden commencements of elementary geomagnetic disturbances, have been observed. One case coincided with a 'saddle-shaped' disturbance with two sudden impulses observed at the Borok station on April 18, 1988 while the other coincided with an auroral substorm observed at the Loparskaia station on June 26, 1988. These pressure variations were characterized by a long duration (several hours), high amplitude, aperiodicity, and irregular high-amplitude modulation.
