Sulfur abundances determined from the forbidden S III line at 6312 A using the currently favored ionization correction procedure in Orion and in the H II regions of the Magellanic Clouds show a marked trend with the degree of ionization measured by O(++)/O. An explanation is suggested and used to propose an improved ionization correction scheme. The abundance ratio of sulfur to oxygen in both LMC and SMC H II regions is about the same as in Orion.
