The continuous absorption coefficient of Si(-) is calculated from
quantum mechanically determined free-free cross-sections and
experimental photodetachment data. The results indicate that, apart from
hydrogen-deficient late-type stars, Si(-) is a minor source of opacity
in stellar atmospheres.
