Solar Coronal Holes: Radio Structure

Scientific paper

Using RATAN-600 observations of the Sun at 9 wavelengths in the 2 - 32 cm range the evolution of an equatorial coronal hole (CH) has been studied for 3 solar rotations. A change of the CH boundary has been noted for 2.5 hours of observation. It is shown that the rotation-to-rotation variation of the CH size in the He 10830 Å line is followed by a similar variation of its radio dimensions. The radio dimensions increased with the growth of the wavelength and surpassed its dimensions in the He 10830 Å by 35% at the wavelength 32 cm, which indicates an expansion of the CH with height. The decrease of the CH size by 35 - 40% from rotation to rotation is not accompanied by a change of the expansion character of the CH with height. Its brightness temperature has proved to be 5 - 7%.
