In combination with ionosonde measurements of maximum electron density in the F-region, ATS-6 radio beacon data provide three independent variables describing the plasmasphere: electron content, the effective longitudinal gyrofrequency, and the slant slab thickness. These three independent variables must be manipulated to devise physically self-consistent models of the plasmasphere. Methods for presenting the electron content data in a way which permits the development of meaningful models are discussed.
