Previous studies involving the determination of the parameters of diurnal free nutation are discussed. The argument is advanced that since these parameters are not obtained from 24-hr latitude observations, all such parameters are significantly affected by the influence of a symmetric harmonic relative to sidereal or mean solar days. It is shown that when the parameters of diurnal free nutation are determined as the parameters of oscillations transformed to the low-frequency region, one cannot always take into account the effect of the low-frequency part of the latitude-variation spectrum which is not related to diurnal free nutation. It is concluded that the parameters of diurnal free nutation may be obtained in pure form only from 24-hr latitude observations.
