Exact solutions of the MHD equations for rotating magnetic stars with arbitrary equations of state are obtained. The velocity and magnetic fields are assumed to be purely toroidal and meridian circulation is assumed to be absent. The solution reduces to the Chandrasekhar (1956) solution for a constant density, though the present solution is not restricted to constant density. The rotational and magnetic stresses are treated exactly, but the condition for radiative thermal equilibrium is solved to lowest order in the nonspherical perturbations. Possible instabilities are discussed.
