An investigation is made of the statistical properties of atmospheric emission in the infrared range. The study is based on data collected by a 193-cm infrared telescope simultaneously observing two points on the focal plane at 3.7, 8.6, and 10.0 microns. The data indicate that sky noise fluctuations are correlated for a two arcmin separation on the sky and even more so for separations less than two arcmin. The width of the correlation function varies from 5 to 100 ms. Variations in pupil aperture from 0.90-1.85 m are not observed to produce significant effects.
