Methods for making a priori estimates of variations in the elements of low-eccentricity orbits with specified probability, taking instrumental errors on the part of the vehicle control system and various disturbing factors into account, are developed. Statistical operations are facilitated by the method of moments applied to estimates of parameters of the theoretical distribution on the basis of a sample taken from the parent population. Estimates of variations in nonlinear orbit functions made by relying on methods of generalized and combined vectors obviate the need for Monte Carlo calculations. The methods developed are recommended for determining variations in phase coordinates and parameters of orbits over a specified satellite in-orbit lifetime.
