A comparison of A3 ionospheric absorption data with satellite data on X-ray and Lyman-alpha fluxes shows that the dependence of absorption on the intensity of ionizing radiation is linear. The linearity is consistent with and supports the idea that the ionization rates varies with electron density, as well as a two-ion recombination model in the water-cluster region.
